The highly anticipated annual Plascon Colour Forecast sets the tone for the SPACES spring issue.

Divided into four main colour palettes – Anonymous, Terrain, Prism and Pause – Plascon Colour Forecast 2017 not only looks to the future of colour in décor and design but also celebrates the here and now. SPACES also reports back on all the gorgeous looks spotted at 100% Design in Johannesburg, features a meet-and-greet with the designers of SABC 3’s Win A Home competition, and gives a glimpse of the kaleidoscopic entries for the Plascon 2016 Colour Design Awards.

Bagged with the spring issue of SPACES, Plascon Colour Forecast 2017 is a showcase of the palettes you’ll be seeing much more of in the coming year: stripped-back yet modern Anonymous; intense, earthy Terrain; optimistic-with-an-edge Prism; and gentle, dreamy Pause. SPACES features some of our favourite looks from the Forecast and incorporates the hues in real spaces, illustrating how to use the trendy colours in your home.

Echoing the optimism of spring, SPACES pops into a historical Georgian building that’s been transformed into a brightly hued private member’s club imbued with a healthy sense of humour. On the same colourful tangent, we reveal the winner of this year’s Win A Home competition on SABC 3 and ask the three contestants which hues they loved to work with; we pick our favourite colourful proposals by young design students for this year’s Plascon Colour Design Awards; and we look back on 100% Colour – the jaw-dropping exhibition sponsored by Plascon at this year’s 100% Design expo.

Julian and Ilaria Louw – the paint experts from Paintiques – show you how to execute four of the gorgeous paint effects appearing in Plascon Colour Forecast 2017. Taking you through each step, they demonstrate a soft-edged tonal paint technique in pink, a geometric pattern in punchy brights, an ombré effect in moody blues, and a stripy focal wall in shades inspired by nature.
