With a subdued palette, clean-lined furniture and a stunning focal point, interior designer Candice Brophy has created a nursery with a difference.
With her soothing nursery for a baby boy, Simpli Décor’s managing director Candice Brophy has proved that sometimes following the path least travelled yields the most beautiful results. There’s no sign of the expected baby blue – instead, the palette is based around Plascon’s gentle grey-blue colour of Aqua Pura (G7-C2-2), a shade that is both timeless and soothing for the little resident.

Candice painted the walls with Plascon Cashmere tinted to Essential Collection Off Shore (EC 50), the skirting in white Plascon Velvaglo and the ceiling in Plascon Cashmere Aqua Pura (G7-C2-2). “Painting the ceiling a different colour gives the room a further dimension,” she says.

Candice’s company designs and produces baby furniture with Scandinavian-inspired clean lines, which she used to kit out the room. She maintains that you can never have enough storage in a nursery, which is where the white compactum with its quirky blue drawer that matches the ceiling colour comes in.

What immediately catches the eye upon entering the room is a mural of a leafy tree blowing gently in the wind, which is based on one of Candice’s designs. “The tree adds a whimsical, fun element to the room,” she says. “To create another dimension to the mural, we cut out the leaves and painted them in Plascon Singing in the Rain (G7-C2-1), a shade that complements the ceiling.”

To avoid your nursery looking cluttered, Candice recommends that you invest in furniture that also offers clever storage solutions, like the compactum. Another tip she offers is to paint one feature wall only, not all four of them. “Keep it simple with a few interesting aspects,” she says. “A busy nursery isn’t calming for you or baby.”
