An abandoned tobacco factory located in the city of Caguas, Puerto Rico was transformed with an array of multicoloured hues by Puerto Rican artist Sofia Maldonado.
Titled ‘Kalaña’, the polychromatic makeover is part of Sofia’s bigger project called ‘Cromática: Caguas a Color’ project, in which she collaborates with other artists to revitalise unused spaces and buildings through the medium of art.
In this project, Sofia adorned the derelict building in vibrant colours, taking it from lacklustre to kaleidscopic. It is now being used by the community for workshops, lectures, musical performances and a host of other activities.
“My work is mainly inspired by colour and also by the Caribbean way of living; just experiencing light and colour”, the artist was quoted as saying.
