Get the décor effect

  • Clean the table with Polycell Sugar Soap, diluting 100 g of soap powder in a litre of warm water. Be sure to wear gloves and use a Scotch Brite pad, available at any hardware store. Once all the oil and grease have been removed, rinse with clean water. Leave to dry, at least overnight.
  • Sand the surface, wipe clean and then prime using the Multi-surface Primer. Leave to dry for at least 16 hours. To achieve a smooth finish, the priming process must be carefully followed.
  • Using a sponge roller, paint the piece with the Double Velvet Cloud White and allow to dry. We emphasised the groove detail on our table with Double Velvet Ebony, applied with the small artist’s brush.
  • Using the white bristle brush, paint a coat of wood glue onto the surface and, while still wet, paint a coat of Cloud White over the glue. Be sure to work in one direction and cover the surface only once to keep the effect smooth and consistent. Too much agitation of the surface will spoil the crackle effect. Large cracks will appear as the surface dries. Mix a few drops of Raw Umber with a cup of Scumble Glaze and rub this into the cracks, removing the excess with a damp mutton cloth. Once this is dry, seal with Plascon Glazecoat.
